Streamlined Tax Installment Agreements
Taxpayers who show an ability to repay may apply for an installment agreement that allows monthly payments on past due tax amounts. Most recently, taxpayers may apply for streamlined installment agreements if the balance going to the IRS is $50,000 or less. The IRS can approve payment schedules of up to 72 months or until the running of the applicable statute of limitations.
- A streamlined tax installment agreement does not require a financial disclosure form
- A streamlined tax installment agreement stays tax liens and levies
- A streamlined tax installment agreement requires that all tax returns must be filed
- A streamlined tax installment agreement requires the timely filing and payment of all future tax returns
The IRS has recently expanded the streamlined installment plan by raising the amounts from $25,000 to $50,000. They have also expanded the repayment term from 60 to 72 months, allowing more taxpayers to take advantage of this form of installment arrangement.
Non-Streamlined Installment Agreements
For taxpayers unable to meet the debt limitations or time limitations for tax repayment, a non-streamlined installment agreement can often be the best alternative for relief. These over-encumbered taxpayers will need a negotiated arrangement with the IRS. Since no other automatic choices exist to obtain the best negotiated installment possible, you need the knowledge and experience we've gathered in performing thousands of financial evaluations based on the IRS's complicated standards for acceptable income and expenses.
